
Game Recap: 5/30/24
In a closely contested matchup, the Yolo High Wheelers defeated the Grand Junction Jackalopes 4-1. Despite solid pitching from the Jackalopes, the High Wheelers capitalized on key opportunities to secure the victory.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning, when Yolo erupted for three runs. Key contributions came from Bobby Lada, who drove in a run, and Angel Mendoza, whose single added another. Justin Kirby also chipped in with an RBI single. The inning was highlighted by Jose Gonzalez's triple, setting the stage for the scoring burst.
Grand Junction responded in the fourth inning. Druw Sackett led oN with a triple and was driven in by Matt Turner's groundout, giving the Jackalopes their lone run of the game. Despite their eNorts, the Jackalopes struggled to generate further oNense against Yolo's pitching staN.
Brandon McPherson earned the win for Yolo, pitching six innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six. Jacob Stobart and Ty Buckner provided relief, with Buckner earning the save.
For Grand Junction, Frank Racioppo took the loss, pitching six innings and giving up three runs on five hits. Connor Barton pitched the final two innings, allowing one unearned run.
Despite the loss, the Jackalopes showed moments of promise but were ultimately outmatched by the Wheelers' timely hitting and eNective pitching. The game lasted 2 hours and 9 minutes.
