Host Families
Be a GJ Jacaklopes Host Family!
Each year, the Grand Junction community warmly welcomes players from around the globe through the Grand Junction Jackalopes Host Family Program. By opening your home, you can play a vital role in helping these young athletes transition to life as professional baseball players. Host families provide a supportive and nurturing environment throughout the summer as these players embark on their journey toward the big leagues.
All players on the Grand Junction Jackalopes are signed as free agents and are under contract with the team. While host families do not receive financial compensation, they will enjoy season tickets to watch their player develop and grow during their time with the Jackalopes. If you're interested in becoming a host family, please review the details below.
Ideal Host Families Should
- Be committed to hosting for the entire season (May-September).
- Provide free room and board in a safe and clean environment.
- Ensure players have their own room with access to a bathroom, laundry facilities, and a refrigerator. If hosting multiple players, two can share a room as long as they have separate beds.
- Be aware that players need to supply their own food, though a home-cooked meal every now and then is always appreciated.
- Establish house rules for the players while being mindful that they may return home late after games or road trips.
Why we request host families:
- Players earn a modest salary, and Grand Junction often serves as their first step into professional baseball.
- Due to extensive travel throughout the season, players and staff are only in Grand Junction roughly 50% of the time.
- Host families provide essential support to help players adjust to life as professional athletes.
The Grand Junction Jackalopes hope you consider this opportunity to open your home to a player this season. Please contact the GJ Jackalopes front office at 970-255-7625 with any questions or fill out this form to begin the process!
